Thomas Hendrix

My name is Tom Hendrix. I’m a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and hold a Master's of Science in Finance and an MBA. Additionally, I’m a successful DIY investor, a former customer of fee-only financial planning services, and a lifelong student of personal and behavioral finance.

I come from a third generation Army family and served ten years in the Army, including two tours in Iraq. Afterwards, I spent ten years as a civilian working in operations management. My wife worked for 20 years as a resource manager for an IT consulting firm. Without really planning to, and while making lots of mistakes along the way, we stumbled into financial independence in our mid-forties. Eventually, we even believed it and we finally retired from our corporate jobs to pursue careers and a lifestyle that was more flexible, enjoyable, and values-focused.

For us, that meant moving closer to family; staying home with our young son; pursuing volunteer opportunities; and choosing rewarding jobs that let us control our time.

My mission is to help other people do it better than we did. I believe that with education and planning, anyone can take control of their financial situation and achieve financial security and independence as a DIY investor.

I became a financial planner because even after my wife and I achieved financial independence we didn't believe it and didn't know what to do. Finally we consulted a financial planner and gained the clarity, confidence, and alignment to take action to change our lives dramatically and for the better.

I became a financial planner so I could help others do the same thing. People don't need investment managers or constant supervision. I believe that they need a partner to help them develop and initiate a comprehensive financial plan and someone they can come to with questions and for updates. I want to be that person.
